Kathmandu, March 29
The Ministry of Home Affairs has set an April 28 deadline for all to surrender their weapons to the government even if they have the license to keep it.
The Ministry, in a notice on Wednesday, said the arms needed to be collected to create a peaceful environment for free and fair elections to take place on May 14.
According to the prevailing laws, Nepali nationals can keep weapons if they feel their security is compromised, but they need to get an approval from the local administration to do that. The government wants the weapons to be collected and stored until elections are over.
