Continuous rain triggers landslide halting traffic on Araniko Highway

Kavrepalanchowk, July 20

Due to continuous rainfall, a landslide and mudslide have blocked the Jure section of the Araniko Highway.

Chief of the District Police Office Sindhupalchok, Rameshwar Karki, informed that the road has been obstructed since Saturday night after a mudslide occurred from the upper part of a previous landslide site.

According to him, excavators and loaders are currently being used to clear the debris.

With the road blocked, large vehicles and containers have been stranded on the highway. Along with the road closure, an electric pole has also fallen in Jure.

Similarly, the road has caved in at Mahabhir, according to the police. Motorcycles are crossing the area by risking their safety.

The landslide has affected locals in the border areas of Tatopani, Tripura Sundari Rural Municipality, and Bahrabise Municipality.

Containers transporting goods to and from the Tatopani border point have also been halted.
