Grandmother was a fighter, I am a fighter too; I will ensure the election is held: Prime Minister

Kathmandu, October 30

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has vowed to hold the upcoming election as scheduled.

Speaking during the tripartite talks between the government, political parties, and Gen Z representatives at Baluwatar on Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Karki reaffirmed her commitment to conduct the election slated for March 5.

According to a source present at the meeting, Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa had expressed concern that there might not be enough time to prepare for the polls.

“The election must be held, but I’m worried that we might not be able to manage it in such a short time,” Thapa said during the meeting. “There is a lot of groundwork to be done.”

In response, Prime Minister Karki urged all sides to remain confident about the election, stating that both she and her grandmother had been fighters and that she would ensure the election takes place.

“I am a fighter. My grandmother was a fighter too,” Karki said. “I will make sure the election is held. The government will prove it by conducting the polls.”

She thanked the Gen Z representatives and political parties for joining the dialogue but said continued discussions would be necessary.

“This is just the beginning of the dialogue. We will continue discussions regularly,” one of the participants quoted her as saying.

‘Do not create obstacles for me’

Prime Minister Karki said she understood the spirit of the movement and urged the Gen Z side to cooperate in matters related to the movement and the election, asking them not to create hurdles.

“Please do not try to bring obstacles before me. Do not tie my hands and then say I didn’t act,” she said, according to a participant. “You don’t allow your top leaders to be investigated, and then you say the government has not investigated corruption that’s not fair.”

She further asked others not to underestimate her.

“Do not think I am weak,” the Prime Minister said. “I am someone with a revolutionary ideology. I speak for truth and justice. I have the support of Gen Z, and no one can silence me.”
