Govt to sell confiscated surgical masks

Police confiscate hoarded surgical masks in Satungal of Kathmandu, on Monday, March 16, 2020.

Kathmandu, March 16

The government is planning to sell the masks that police confiscated from accused black marketeers to the public via various drugstores.

With the growing risks of coronavirus, the demand for masks is very high in the current market. As the supply from China has stopped, there has been a shortage in Nepal. Taking an advantage of the situation, some traders had hoarded the masks.

Of late, the police have launched a crackdown on such traders. Now, the government will sell them as per the Black-marketing and Some Other Social Offences and Punishment Act, 1975. Attorney General Agni Kharel has directed Inspector General of Police Thakur Gyawali and other concerned officials to ensure that the confiscated goods will be sold to the public.
