Kathmandu, January 10

The government has prorogued the winter session of the National Assembly on the 10th day it had started.

The session had begun on January 1, days after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved the House of Representatives. Reports had already claimed that Oli did not command a majority in the Upper House also, hence he wanted to end the session as soon as possible.

Accordingly, Oli called a cabinet meeting this morning and decided to recommend the proroguing of the assembly to the president.

Prime Minister Oli is addressing the assembly meeting today. Following that, the session is likely to end, according to the assembly chairman Ganesh Timilsina.
