Govinda KC urges government to fulfill demands of nurses

Kathmandu, May 19

Medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC has urged the government to fulfill the demands of two nurses who have been staging a fast-unto-death for the past 10 days.

Issuing a press release on Sunday, Dr KC said that it was quite disheartening to see the demands of nurses who play an integral role in taking care of patients at a hospital go unnoticed.

Nurses Dikki Sherpa and Jita Baral have demanded equal pay and job security; but the government has turned a blind eye to their demands. Sherpa works at Human Organ Transplant Centre and Baral is a member of Nursing Association of Nepal.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Nursing Association Tara Pokharel has been holding talks at the Ministry of Health and Population about the demands.

The nurses were also arrested while protesting.
