Gore accused of avoiding questions in bid to influence investigation

Chudamani Upreti alias Gore (masked)

Biratnagar, May 25

Police officials investigating into a 33.5 kg gold smuggling case and the subsequent murder of a mule mobilised in the process have said the accused mastermind of the case, Chudamani Upreti alias Gore, is prolonging the recording to statements at the Morang District Court, in an apparent bid to influence investigation and delay the judicial process.

During the interrogation, Gore often avoids answering the questions asked by court officials and investigators, but talks about other ‘unnecessary’ issues, according to them.

The court recorded his statements on Wednesday and Thursday, but he is yet to reveal key information about his racket.

“On Thursday, he looked more fresh than Wednesday. But, he is mostly focused on informal talks than the questions we ask,” an official says, adding, “He has revealed some names, but has not cooperated with us yet.”

Gore has been repeating that he was just an agent and he was framed by ‘people in high positions.’ However, investigators have noticed his behavioural changes during the probing and say it is quite meaningful to reveal the secrets.

One of such officials says Gore might be dominating the investigators as the investigators do not have complete information about him.

Meanwhile, the accused met his father during during the interval of interrogation yesterday.
