Kathmandu, October 1
Agriculture, Forest and Environment Minister Geeta Chaudhary has clarified her position over a controversial audio recording that has been circulating on social media.
Chaudhary said she had no personal or family relationship with either of the two people heard speaking in the audio clip. She also said she was prepared to face any evidence presented against her.
The audio, which was recently made public on social media, features two people discussing financial transactions while mentioning the names of Agriculture Minister Chaudhary, Home Minister Sudan Gurung and Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Thakursingh Tharu, among others.
One of the people speaking in the audio is heard referring to Minister Chaudhary as his “maternal uncle’s daughter.”
Members of the Federal Parliament’s Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee had sought an explanation from Minister Chaudhary over the audio during the committee meeting on Thursday.
Responding to the questions, Chaudhary said, “I do not know the people speaking in the audio. I have no personal or family relationship with them.”
She said the matter had already entered a legal process and that an investigation was underway, making it inappropriate for her to comment further.
Chaudhary said she had been fighting for good governance for a long time and had also contributed to the Gen Z movement. She urged people to raise questions based on evidence rather than making unnecessary comments.
“We have come for good governance. Rather than making comments, if there is evidence, I am ready to face it,” she said.
She also urged journalists to verify the facts and understand the truth before publishing or making the issue public.
