Electricity and internet services have been completely disrupted in Mustang for the past 36 hours after floods and landslides damaged power and internet infrastructure in the district.
The services were disrupted on Saturday night following continuous rainfall, floods, landslides and river erosion.
San Prasad Thakali, chief of the Nilgiri Consumers Cooperative Society, the electricity distributor based in Jomsom, said the 33-kilovolt transmission line supplying electricity from Dimukha in Parbat was disconnected after floods and river erosion damaged its poles.
He said power infrastructure in Parbat and Myagdi was also damaged, preventing the Dana substation in Myagdi from being charged and forcing it to shut down.
A team from Jomsom has headed towards the area to assess the condition of the 33-kV transmission line and the Dana substation. Thakali said technicians were also repairing damaged power poles in Thasang Rural Municipality-3 after trees fell on them.
Meanwhile, Nepal Telecom’s Jomsom office said the optical fibre network was damaged at dozens of locations in Parbat and Myagdi, disrupting internet services in Mustang.
Nepal Telecom Jomsom chief Hum Bhujel said repair work was underway in Baisari of Myagdi and Lete of Thasang. He said telephone and 4G services were still operating in some parts of Mustang through radio links.
Officials said efforts were underway to restore both services by Monday evening.
