Mustang administration urges trekkers to avoid high-altitude areas for 3 days

Mustang, October 28

The District Administration Office and Lomanthang Rural Municipality have urged people to avoid trekking in high-altitude areas from October 29 to 31 due to the possibility of adverse weather conditions.

In a notice, the District Administration Office said most parts of Gandaki Province are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

The administration has urged tourists to remain cautious due to the risk of heavy snowfall and avalanches in high-hill and Himalayan areas.

Mustang Chief District Officer Parshuram Pokharel said the advisory was issued because temperatures could drop, landslides could occur on roads, and road and air transport services could be disrupted.

Similarly, Lomanthang Rural Municipality has warned that the risk could increase around the Korala border point and surrounding areas due to the forecast of adverse weather.

Rural Municipality Chairperson Tasinorbu Gurung has urged transport operators, drivers, traders and tourists not to take vehicles towards the Korala border point, citing the risk of slippery roads, vehicle accidents and road blockages caused by snowfall.

The rural municipality has also requested people to suspend travel towards the Korala border point and vehicle movement in the area until weather conditions improve.
