The Relekholā Hydropower Project in Annapurna Rural Municipality-4, Narchyang, Myagdi, has been shut down after floodwaters entered its dam. The project, with a six-megawatt capacity, stopped generating electricity completely after the flood inflicted damage to the dam located at the base of Relekhola.
According to project chief Darshan Kafle, power generation has completely stopped because rain and floods on September 24-27 damaged the dam. Because the dam is in a remote, isolated area, landslides have blocked the access roads, making it difficult to divert water and operate the project.
The project, completed last year, connected its electricity to the central grid through a 220 kV Dana substation. Floods and landslides from the Kaligandaki River have washed away transmission line towers and broken wires
