Family to receive Inisha’s body after 27 days; funeral scheduled today

The family of Inisha BK is set to receive her body 27 days after her death. According to the family, the funeral will be conducted this afternoon at Samjhighat near Bheri Bridge.

The family had earlier refused to accept the body, demanding justice for Inisha. Her body had been kept at the mortuary of the Provincial Hospital for the past 27 days.

On Tuesday, the Surkhet District Court ordered that four minors arrested on charges of rape and murder be sent to a juvenile correction home for further investigation. Following the court’s order, the family agreed to receive the body.

Originally from Gurbhakot–6, Badakholi, the 16-year-old had been living in Birendranagar–1. A Grade 11 student at Usha Balbatika School in Birendranagar, she had left home on the morning of Falgun 23 to attend tuition classes.

She was found unconscious at around 9 am the same day in a jungle near Shahid Park in Birendranagar–4. Police rushed her to the Provincial Hospital in Kalagaun, where doctors declared her dead.

Police had taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. As the case initially appeared suspicious, an investigation was launched on suspicion of rape, followed by murder.

Protests were held across the country in various phases, demanding immediate action against those responsible for Inisha’s death.
