The Extratech Oval International Cricket Stadium under construction with the investment of the private sector in Rupandehi will be operational from February 26.

Businessperson Binod Kunwar is building the multipurpose stadium in Tilottama Municipality of Rupandehi with an investment of Rs 400 million.

While the remaining work of the stadium is ongoing, the ground is nearing completion and will be hosting domestic tournaments.

A T20 tournament is being held to mark the opening of the ground. The tournament will feature Legends 96, Nepal’s first international cricket team, the 2014 T20 World Cup team, Rupandehi Legends and one more team consisting of Nepali players from yesteryears.

Former cricketer Shakti Gauchan, who is also the brand ambassador of the ground, said that the completion of the cricket ground in nine months is nothing short of a miracle.

“This is the hard work of everyone who has invested their sweat, time, effort and money. We have worked incredibly hard,” he says.

Gauchan stated that following the construction of this ground, a platform has been established for Nepali cricket, and it will elevate Nepali cricket to new heights.

Former captain Paras Khadka, who also serves as the secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), expressed his joy at CAN acquiring a ground to host new tournaments.
