Former President Ram Baran Yadav has undergone prostate surgery at Henry Ford Hospital based in Michigan.

A team under Dr Mani Menon operated on the former president on Thursday. After keeping Yadav at the post-operative ward for 24 hours, the attending medical team shifted him to guest apartment.

Yadav’s son Chandra Shekhar Yadav said attending doctors and nurses are closely monitoring the patient’s health. Dr Menon will attend to the former president for some week before his return to Nepal.

The government had provided six million rupees for the treatment of the former president, who is a medical doctor himself. After suffering urinary conditions towards July end, the ex-president had undergone tests at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu.

Tests had indicated prostate cancer. The former president had visited India for further treatment. Yadav had received treatment at Chandigadh-based Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Centre, which confirmed that Yadav had prostate cancer.

The centre had suggested the former president to undergo highly sophisticated surgery. Medical Board had recommended the ex-president to visit the US for treatment.
