Electricity will be cheaper next year, assures energy minister

Energy Minister Barsha Man Pun says the government will reduce the price of electricity next year.

Stating that the government reduced the price of electricity for domestic and industrial users separately, for the first time in the history, this year, the minister said the government would revise the tariff next year also.

Speaking in a meeting of the task force formed by the government to study the status of the country’s energy sector and forward policy recommendations in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the minister said price reduction would be possible next year as the country’s production would increase.

Meanwhile, the task force formally began its operation today. It includes three ministers (for energy, industry and commerce, and finance) and the vice-chairperson of the National Planning Commission as members.

The meeting today assigned Energy Secretary Dinesh Kumar Ghimire as the member secretary of the task force.
