Electricity tariff slashed for domestic users

Kathmandu, June 17

The government has reduced the electricity tariff for domestic users.

The revised rates will apply from the bill of the month of Asar. The rates are different from user to user based on the amount of their power use.

The users who have subscribed to a five-ampere scheme will pay just Rs 30 as a demand charge and will get electricity for free for the first 10 units. Then, the users have to pay Rs 4 to Rs 12 for each of the units added.

Kul Man Ghising, the managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, the government-run electricity distribution monopoly, says on an average, the rates have decreased by around 10 per cent.
