The Election Commission has requested additional documents from three of the four newly proposed political parties, including one led by Dharan Mayor Harka Sampang.
According to the commission, applications were filed for the registration of four new parties. Among them, Sampang-led Shram Sanskriti Party, Ujjyalo Nepal Party, and Nepal Nagarik Party have been asked to provide further documentation.
As per Section 5 of the Political Parties Act 2016, an application must include the party’s constitution, flag, and symbol samples, along with signatures of at least 500 registered voters who have pledged membership, and certified copies of their citizenship or voter ID cards. A minimum 21-member central committee is also required.
The commission said it has sought clarification from Sampang’s party regarding provisions in its statute, and from Ujjyalo Nepal and Nagarik Party regarding missing signatures of 500 supporters.
Ujjyalo Nepal Party treasurer Bimali Tamang confirmed that they were asked to verify the 500 signatories. “We are preparing for the identification process,” she said.
Meanwhile, the registration process for Janaswaraj Party, formed after a split from the Janamat Party, has moved forward.
