Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel held a meeting with Evagoras Vryonides, Cyprus’ non-resident ambassador to Nepal.
According to the minister’s secretariat, the meeting focused on expanding cooperation in higher education and issues concerning Nepali students studying in Cyprus.
“During the meeting held at the Ministry of Education and Sports in Singha Durbar on Tuesday, discussions were held on bilateral relations between the two countries, mutual interests, cooperation in higher education and the welfare of Nepali students studying in Cyprus,” the secretariat said in a press note.
During the meeting, Minister Pokharel also informed the ambassador that the ministry was working to simplify the process of issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to Nepali students pursuing higher education abroad and determining the equivalence of academic qualifications obtained overseas in Nepal.
The minister’s secretariat said Pokharel noted that the University Grants Commission is now responsible for determining the equivalence of academic qualifications, a task previously handled by Tribhuvan University. He also said the ministry was working on necessary policy reforms to improve the process.
