Kathmandu, January 7
A man in Kathmandu jumped off the roof of his house in panic during the tremors caused by an earthquake.
According to Nepal Police, the individual has been identified as 20-year-old Rikes Thapa from Syuchatar, Nagarjun Municipality-10. He leaped from 1.5 stories above the ground of his three-story house, sustaining injuries. Thapa is currently undergoing treatment at Manmohan Hospital.
The powerful earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.0, struck at 6:50 am Nepali time, with its epicenter in Dinggyé village of Shigatse Prefecture in China’s Xizang Province. The tremors were felt in several districts across Nepal’s Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces, prompting residents in the Kathmandu Valley to rush outdoors.
In Bara district, 11 students from grades 7 and 8 at Trichandra Secondary School in Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City-1 fainted during the earthquake. Police reported that all students have since recovered and been discharged after treatment.
Additionally, police noted structural damage caused by the quake. A police station building in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4, Sindhupalchok, and a shed in Ramechhap suffered damage. In Okhaldhunga and Solukhumbu, some uninhabited houses were also reported damaged.
