Kathmandu, August 11
Members of the standing and central committee of Nepal Communist Party have submitted a written request to the chairmen asking them not to assign members of the secretariat to lead the party’s various departments.
The members submitted the request to NCP General Secretary Bishnu Paudel, a source close to the party said adding that standing committee members Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Bed Kumar Bhusal told Paudel that as the secretariat looked after the entire party, the department heads should come from people outside of it.
Other leaders of the party further added that those who held ministerial posts should also be excluded from contending for the post of department chief. Secretariat member and Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, at a recent secretariat meeting, had proposed the same along with defence minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel.
Multiple leaders vying for deparment posts
The source shared that multiple leaders from the standing committee have thrown their hats in the ring for various departmental posts. General Secretary Paudel told the standing committee members that he will take the suggestions to the secretariat. Paudel asked members from the working and standing committee to fil a form asking them which department they would like to be a part of.
Out of the party’s 441 central committee members, over half have already been given responsibilities at various district and provincial levels. Now the party will assign responsibility to both central and standing committee members after going through the forms submitted by them.
