Dhurmus, Suntali’s cricket stadium construction underway amid Covid-19 crisis

Construction works are underway for Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium, in Chitwan, in August 2020.

Chitwan, August 25

Whereas the Covid-19 crisis and restrictive orders implemented to control the outbreak have affected most of the infrastructure development projects in the country, the construction of an international cricket stadium is underway in Bharatpur of Chitwan.

Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation established by comedians Sita Ram Kattel ‘Dhurmus’ and Kunjana Ghimire ‘Suntali’ is constructing the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium here.

Though the project was halted for around 45 days in March, April and May, it has continued since then, it has been learned. Over 130 workers have been quarantined on the project site itself to secure their safety and smooth work.

“We had planned to triple the workforce, and hence the pace of work, but we could not do that due to the crisis,” Kattel says, “But still, we have been doing whatever we can.”

Currently, the workers are constructing the foundations and pillars for two parapets of the stadium. Each of them will have a capacity of 15,000 spectators.
