Kathmandu, July 25

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expanded his five-member cabinet by inducting Umesh Shrestha as the minister of state for health and population.

The owner of the Little Angels’ School, Shrestha is in politics as a member of the ruling Nepali Congress party for the past few years.

According to a statement by the President’s Office on Sunday, Deuba holds the health and population portfolio within him.

Of late, the prime minister is under fire for keeping important ministries without political leadership. He is having a hard time giving full shape to the cabinet owing to lengthy negotiations among the coalition partners.

With Shrestha’s appointment, Deuba’s five-member cabinet has grown to six with four including himself from his own party and two from the CPN-Maoist Centre.
