Constitution amendment: UML accuses Deuba of double standards

Kathmandu, July 13

Nepal’s main opposition party UML has accused Prime Minister Deuba of double standards when it comes to the issue of constitution amendment.

UML leader Shanker Pokhrel, who was speaking at a programme in the capital on Thursday, said that the government is reluctant to put the constitution amendment proposal to vote.

While Prime Minister Deuba told the opposition that the amendment will be presented only after the third round of election, he told the agitating RJP that the amendment will take place before the polls, the senior leader added.

The Prime Minister cannot keep his promise with both the parties, he will have to let go of one of the promises he made, said Pokhrel.

He made it clear that the UML will oppose any move to amend the constitution.
