Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal President Kamal Thapa said on Friday a Constitution amendment that addresses demands of Madheshi parties alone is not acceptable to his party. He said such an amendment should also address the demands of his party — restoration of Nepal as a Hindu state and abrogation of secularism.

Thapa, speaking at a press conference in Butwal, Rupandehi, said: If the Constitution is to be amended, the amendment should establish Nepal as a Hindu state and do away with secularism. If that does not happen, we are even ready to go for a referendum.

He described Prime Minister Prachada’s address to the Parliament on Thursday as a cheap popularity gimmick.
