Kathmandu, October 2
A committee formed to investigate the self-immolation of public bus driver Arjun Dong Tamang in Tripureshwor has held its first meeting.
The meeting was held on Friday under the coordination of Rajiv Pokharel, director general of the Department of Transport Management.
The committee has made four decisions as part of its investigation.
It will first study investigation reports previously prepared by agencies under the Ministry of Home Affairs and request the concerned authorities to implement recommendations made in those reports.
The committee will also proceed with collecting and analysing evidence related to the incident.
It has decided to invite representatives of insurance companies to its next meeting to discuss relief and compensation for those affected by the incident.
The committee will also seek suggestions from transport entrepreneurs and transport workers’ unions on measures to prevent similar incidents in the long term.
A committee member said the meeting held detailed discussions on the circumstances that led Tamang to self-immolate, the actual background of the incident, facts and evidence related to the sequence of events, and actions taken by the concerned authorities.
The committee is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and recommend measures based on its findings.
