Kathmandu, October 28
Nepali citizens from other districts can now get a copy of their citizenship certificate from Kathmandu Valley.
The Kathmandu District Administration Office has made this arrangement. It aims to make the service easier for citizens who need a copy.
The arrangement follows Point 21 of the government’s 100-point governance reform agenda. It also follows the Nepal Citizenship (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2083. Under these, a copy can be obtained from any District Administration Office.
The Kathmandu office cited a Home Ministry circular dated October 26. It says services have been arranged for citizens of other districts who live in Kathmandu Valley.
According to the notice, service seekers from districts in Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces can use the Kathmandu District Administration Office or its subordinate offices.
Those from districts in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces can get the service at the Lalitpur District Administration Office.
Those from districts in Koshi and Madhesh provinces can get it at the Bhaktapur District Administration Office.
Citizens who need a copy can apply at the relevant office. A copy may be needed if the certificate was destroyed in a fire. It may also be needed if it was soaked in water and became unusable, or if it was lost. Others may need a copy in the new format, or for other reasons.
Before issuing a copy, the office will check the citizenship details. It will verify them in the National Identity Management Information System (NIDMIS) and the Centralised Citizenship Information Management System (CCIMS).
Some people must go to the district that issued their citizenship. These include people whose records cannot be found. They also include people who want to correct their name, surname, date of birth or other details. Citizenship holders who look suspicious at first sight are also included.
The administration has asked these people to contact the issuing district.
