Kathmandu, September 18
A one-month-old infant has died after being swept away by a flooded stream in Chitwan of southern Nepal on Thursday night.
The boy, whose name is not revealed, was along with parents when the flood swept him away.
Santosh Sunar and his wife Niruta were heading to Niruta’s parents in Thori rural municipality in neighbouring Parsa district from Madi of Chitwan last night. A passenger bus carrying them was blocked by the flood in local Tiukikhola stream. Then, locals of Thori arranged a tractor to rescue the stranded people.
When the tractor was carrying the parents and the child, the mother lost control over him due to the pressure of the floodwater, losing the child forever, informs Ram Prakash Kunwar, the chief of Thori rural municipality’s ward number 1.
“Other passengers including the child’s parents, however, were rescued by a Nepal Army team,” informs Kunwar.
The child’s body was recovered this morning only.
