CEC Yadav refuses to answer Secretary Mainali’s accusation

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav speaks with journalists in Kathmandu, on Friday, June 23, 2017.

Kathmandu, June 23

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has refused to answer an accusation made to election commissioners by the Commission’s former Secretary Gopi Nath Mainali.

The Cabinet meeting on Thursday had decided to transfer Mainali to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers from the Commission.

After the decision, Mainali had claimed that he was transferred due to undue pressure by the Commissioners as he had protested the Commissioner’s preparation to buy luxurious vehicles for them with the budget allocated for local level elections.

But, Yadav, who had attended an interaction with journalists at the Reporter’s Club in Kathmandu today, refused to answer any question over the issue.

Yadav, however, said the transfer would not have any bearing on the elections scheduled for June 28 as the Commission was already at the final phase of preparations.
