Board Member Pramod Bhattarai jailed in Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case

Kathmandu, February 13

Pramod Bhattarai, a member of the Board of Directors of Suryadarshan Cooperative, has been sent to jail by the Kaski District Court.

The single bench of Judge Ramchandra Sharma ordered Bhattarai to be sent to jail on February 12.

Bhattarai was arrested on February 8 with the help of the Kathmandu Police. He was arrested from Gokarneshwar Municipality in coordination with the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and was brought before the District Court Kaski on February 9.

The number of people arrested for embezzling the money of Suryadarshan Cooperative’s customers has reached five. Earlier, the cooperative’s vice president Kailash Kumar Darlami, treasurer Kumar Ramtel, and members Shiv Bahadur Gurung and Bhagishwar Aryal were arrested. They are also in custody pending trial.

The police issued arrest warrants for 19 people including GB Rai in the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case, 15 of them are absconding.

It is mentioned in the complaint that the officials of Suryadarshan embezzled Rs 1.113 billion from the customers.
