Biratnagar, December 8

Biratnagar metropolitan city demolished illegal structures built outside the house of its mayor Nagesh Koirala on Wednesday.

Various illegal structures were built outside the shutters Koirala had rented resulting in the metropolis bulldozing it.

The metropolis had issued a 35-day notice to remove the structures built on the roads and pavements on October 22. The metropolis started a campaign to remove the structure after the traders refused despite issuing public notices and repeated announcements.

The city police, led by Rajan Poudel, the city police chief, arrived with a dozer and removed the setbacks built in front of the shop and the hoarding board hanging on the shop.

Mayor Koirala says that the removal of the structures built in the market area has been started as part of the campaign to make Biratnagar an orderly metropolis.

“They say change starts at home, and that is what I did by removing the illegal structures outside my house,” he says. “Our goal to is make Biratganar a beautiful city and hope the people help us achieve this goal.”
