Kathmandu, September 3

As the number of Covid-19 patients is rapidly increasing in the Kathmandu valley, the government is preparing to change Bir Hospital, the country’s oldest hospital, as a Covid-19 hospital.

It means the hospital will only admit Covid-19 patients now onwards.

Health Minister Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal held a meeting with officials of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, which runs the hospital, on Wednesday to make the hospital a Covid-19-dedicated one.

Accordingly, the hospital is preparing to shift non-Covid-19 patients to the National Trauma Centre under the academy, informs the hospital’s director Dr Kedar Senchuri.

Meanwhile, 73 staffers of the hospital including several doctors and nurses themselves have contracted Covid-19. Consequently, the hospital had shut its OPD services on Wednesday and Thursday also.
