Bharatpur vote counting venue declared prohibited zone

Chitwan, June 4

The Chitwan District Security Committee has declared the vote counting venue of Bharatpur Metropolitan City and areas surrounding it a prohibited zone in a bid to avoid any untoward incident, on Sunday.

The Office of the Chief Returning Officer, the Metropolitan City Office, the District Hospital, the covered hall being used for vote counting and other administrative buildings in ward 10 have been declared the prohibited zone.

The decision comes a day after the Election Commission decided to redo voting in ward 19 after as many as 90 ballot papers were torn from the ward.

The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has been staging various forms of protest in Bharatpur following the decision.

No demonstration can be staged in the prohibited zone.

The order will be effective till the next notice, according to the District Security Committee.
