Birgunj, January 10

Police and marijuana smugglers have exchanged fire in Nijgadh of Bara on Saturday night.

Following the incident, the law enforcers have arrested one member of the smuggling racket.

The police claim the gang of around 10 people opened fire as soon as they saw the police on the bank of Bhaktalal Khola in Nijgadh-13 at around 10 pm yesterday. Local Ratanpur Temporary Police Post had mobilised a team for patrol in the area.

DSP Gautam Mishra of the Bara District Police Office says the police personnel, in retaliation, also fired five rounds of bullets.

Following the incident, Iman Singh Tamang, 47, a resident of Hetaunda sub-metropolitan city-6 of Makawanpur, was arrested in possession of a loaded gun and 102 kg marijuana.

Whereas police are looking into the case, further investigation is still underway.
