(Updated) Banke city tense after truck hit injures child

Locals obstruct the Kohalpur-Nepalgunj road of Banke district after a truck hit incident killed a child, on Sunday, December 8, 2019.

Banke, December 8

Tension ran high in Kohalpur, a city in Banke district of Province 5, on Sunday morning after a minor was injured in a road accident.

Prakriti Chand, a seventh-grader at local Tribhuvan Secondary School, was hit by a truck at local High School Chok along the Kohalpur-Nepalgunj road this morning. After the incident, the locals and students of the victim’s school came to the street and torched the truck. They also obstructed the road.

Police used force in their attempt to unblock the road and take the situation under control, but it infuriated the locals. They hurled stones at police and broke glasses of other vehicles also.

DSP Hem Raj Shahi and eight other police personnel sustained injuries in their clash with the demonstrators. They are undergoing treatment at Kohalpur Medical College.
