Bamdev Gautam: Will back Nepal-Khanal but not Oli if UML splits

Kathmandu, May 10

The ruling CPN-UML vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam on Monday says he will support the party’s senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal if the party officially splits.

Although the party has already been virtually split with the rival faction forming parallel committees challenging the leadership of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Gautam has not been participating in either of the factions. He, instead, has launched a campaign that he says would unify the UML.

But, if the party is officially divided, Gautam says he will support Nepal and Khanal not Oli as the prime minister is not ready to revive the UML party, reinstated by the Supreme Court verdict on March 7, in the same structure it was before the 2018 May unification with the CPN-Maoist Centre.
