Prime Minister Balen Shah has said disaster management efforts have been continuing through coordination among the federal, provincial and local governments since August 26.

Addressing the 21st meeting of the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Monday, Shah said the government has been continuously working on disaster response without compromising on its efforts.

Chief ministers of Gandaki, Bagmati, Madhesh and Koshi provinces also attended the meeting.

Addressing the chief ministers, Shah said the government was mobilising available resources and human resources to complete disaster management and response work as quickly as possible.

“We are mobilising the available resources and human resources to complete disaster management work as soon as possible, so I urge you to remain assured on this matter,” Shah said.

Shah said the government was also assessing the damage caused by floods and landslides in the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli and Gandaki areas, as well as other affected regions, and was working on their management and recovery.

He said the government was preparing to further strengthen the early warning system as part of efforts to reduce disaster risks.

Shah also said the government was carrying out necessary work to reduce the risks posed by avalanches.

The prime minister expressed gratitude to civil servants, security personnel, volunteers, representatives of political parties and others who have continued working in disaster response operations, putting their own lives at risk.
