Kathmandu, August 19

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to hold a meeting of its Central Committee on August 21.

The meeting will discuss several issues, including the nomination of Central Committee members, office-bearers, Secretariat members and heads of party departments. It will also discuss the nomination of members to the central committee responsible for selecting candidates for the upcoming local elections.

The party has yet to complete nominations that were required following its general convention in Chitwan. Although the issue has been included in the agenda for the upcoming meeting, leaders close to Prime Minister and senior RSP leader Balendra Shah have indicated that they may not submit names for the vacant positions yet.

According to a leader from the Shah faction, discussions have been held on not recommending names for vacant office-bearer and Central Committee positions at this stage. The faction is expected to submit its nominations to party Chair Rabi Lamichhane only after the party’s Madhesh provincial convention, the leader said.

The RSP has yet to complete its provincial convention in Madhesh, including in all eight districts of the province. The Madhesh convention had been postponed while the party proceeded with its central general convention.

Under the party’s statute, the chairperson has the authority to nominate one vice-chairperson, one general secretary, two joint general secretaries, one treasurer, one joint treasurer, one spokesperson, three deputy spokespersons and 51 Central Committee members.
