Nepali weightlifter Kamal Bahadur Adhikari is announcing his retirement on Sunday. Adhikari had led the march-past of the Nepali players during the inauguration ceremony of the 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu exactly one week ago.
Adhikari had won a gold medal in the 2006 SAG, and his was the first gold medal of Nepal in weightlifting.
However, he could not meet expectations this time and was restricted to the bronze medal. It has been learned that Adhikari had wanted to retire right after his failure last week, but the organisers convinced him to delay.
The 42-year-old athlete says he will formally announce retirement this afternoon in Pokhara, where weightlifting events are taking place under SAG.
