Asia-Pacific Interpol Conference concludes adopting a five-point Kathmandu declaration

Kathmandu, January 20

The Asia-Pacific Conference of Interpol concluded on Friday with the adoption of a five-point declaration.

Fifty-three countries — 50 member countries and three observers — had taken part in the three-day conference in Kathmandu.

At the end of the conference, Nepal Police AIG Bigyan Raj Sharma made the declaration public by organising a press conference.

The declaration has pledged to chart out strategies for controlling translation crime and terrorism in the region. The member countries also agreed to engage in new strategic partnership for controlling human trafficking, child labour and child sex abuse.

The declaration states that countries concerned will share details of people involved in terrorist activities and provide information about missing persons, apart from sharing information about economic activities associated with terrorism.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi said Nepal is ready to work together with member countries on issues like controlling transnational crime like human trafficking and math-fixing.
