Army mobilised for development works as per constitution: Defence Minister

Kathmandu, June 25

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ishwar Pokharel has said that Nepal Army has been mobilised for construction and development works as per the constitution.

Answering questions posed by lawmakers on the next year’s budget allocation to the Defence Ministry, Pokharel said that NA was being deployed as per the law and further added that the army would be used during disaster management also.

Pokharel further stated that deploying the army in developmental works would not affect their professional competence.

He further stated that the army had been professional in all the works they had been assigned.

“All these works have had a positive impact on the skill development within the army,” said Pokharel.

As of now, Nepal Army has constructed 30 bridges and 27 roads. Currently, Nepal Army is working on Kathmandu-Terai fast track, Karnali corridor, Jajarkot-Dolpa road and the Kali Gandaki corridor.
