Kathmandu, June 11
When some youth in Kathmandu staged a protest against the government, similar events have been reported from Biratnagar and Pokhara, provincial capitals of Province 1 and Gandaki respectively.
The protesters in the regional cities also showed placards and chanted slogans criticising the government’s slow Covid-19 response and lack of transparency in its spending. They demanded the government stop rapid diagnostic tests for coronavirus, instead expand the range of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.
In Biratnagar, they staged brief protests outside the Chief Minister’s Office and Biratnagar Metropolitan City Office.
Meanwhile, Pokhara protesters briefly clashed with police, sparking a tension. After sitting outside the Kaski District Administration Office peacefully for around one hour, they started chanting slogans against the prime minister, and it invited police to stop them.
The law enforcers also detained a few protesters.
