Kathmandu, October 2

Nepali Congress leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara says action must be taken against ruling Nepal Communist Party leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara if the government wants to regain public trust.

Singh is of the view that the recent scandal about Mahara’s involvement in a sexual abuse case is an opportunity for the government and the police administration to regain trust which has been lost since their failure to conclude investigations into the 2018 Nirmala Pant rape and murder case.

Speaking at a function organised in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Singh said if the government and the police would be successful to book Mahara, it would also prove that the rule of law existed in the country.

The lawmaker further demanded that Mahara quit from the lawmaker’s position also. Owing to the public pressure and his party’s directive, Mahara had resigned from the Speaker’s position on Tuesday after a woman accused him of sexual misconduct. The woman, however, later changed her statement and said Mahara was innocent.
