Dhankuta, October 30
A truck accident at Mulghat in Dhankuta has left the driver and his assistant injured. The accident occurred on the Koshi Highway at Mulghat, Dhankuta Municipality-9, on Friday morning.
The truck, bearing registration number Province 1-02-002 Kha 0590, was heading towards Sankhuwasabha from Itahari carrying chemicals used in hydropower projects when it went out of control and plunged around 50 feet off the road, said Police Inspector Pandav Rajbanshi of the District Police Office, Dhankuta.
The injured have been identified as truck driver Abhishek Chaudhary, 25, of Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-8, Sunsari, and assistant driver Rahul Chaudhary, 18, of Sundarharaicha Municipality-4, Morang.
Police said both were rescued and taken to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for treatment. According to police, the driver is in moderate condition, while the assistant driver sustained minor injuries.
The truck remains at the accident site, and efforts are underway to retrieve it. SP Narayan Ranjitkar said continuous rainfall has made it difficult to remove the truck. People associated with the vehicle are also on their way to the site.
Further investigation into the incident is underway, Ranjitkar said.
