Kathmandu, October 30
Persistent rainfall since Thursday night, triggered by the effects of Cyclone Arnab in the Bay of Bengal, has disrupted daily life in the Kathmandu Valley and several other parts of Nepal.
Government and private-sector employees, as well as daily wage workers, have been affected by the rain. People who had to venture outdoors for various reasons were seen heading to their destinations with umbrellas and raincoats.
Meteorologists have forecast light to moderate rain throughout Friday, with heavy rainfall possible in some areas.
Bibhuti Pokharel, spokesperson for the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, said Cyclone Arnab had weakened but its residual effects could still bring rain, snowfall and strong winds to Nepal. She urged people to remain cautious.
Dr Binod Pokharel, associate professor at Tribhuvan University’s Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, said many places in Koshi and Bagmati provinces could experience heavy rainfall from Friday afternoon through the night.
The effects of the cyclone are expected to gradually weaken from Saturday.
