The Langtang Valley trekking route has reopened following the construction of alternative trails.
Although the Bhotekoshi flood damaged the Pasang Lhamu Highway and infrastructure in the Syabrubesi area, new trekking routes have been opened to ensure the safety of trekkers.
Locals have welcomed the reopening of the world-famous trekking route, which was obstructed by the flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River.
Alternative routes have been constructed through the initiatives of the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal and local governments. Tourists can now reach Bamboo, Lama Hotel and Langtang village from Dhunche via Thulo Bharkhu, Brabal and Thulo Syaphru.
Speaking about the situation in the Langtang area, Dindu Jyangba Tamang, chairperson of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-4, said, “Although the disaster damaged the trekking routes, we have now made alternative routes safe. Teahouses, hotels and local entrepreneurs are fully prepared to welcome tourists to Langtang Valley.”
Tamang stressed that the arrival of both domestic and foreign trekkers would be crucial to revitalising Langtang’s economy and supporting the economic recovery of the disaster-affected indigenous Tamang community.
Although the natural disaster affected local tourism businesses and livelihoods, tourist guides and local business operators are optimistic following the reopening of the alternative trekking routes.
