Jhapa, October 14

The Jhapa administration has stressed regular monitoring of the supply and distribution system to prevent an artificial shortage of gas and petroleum products during the festive season.

Chief District Officer Shrawan Kumar Pokharel urged the agencies concerned to keep the supply system efficient and well organised, as demand for consumer goods is likely to rise during the festivals.

Reviewing the supply situation of gas and other petroleum products in the district, he stressed the need for the necessary coordination to ensure that consumers get fuel smoothly.

According to Umesh Kumar Pokharel, chief of the Nepal Oil Corporation’s Charali office, there is no shortage of petroleum products in the district.

Jit Bahadur Karki, operator of the Parajuli Gas Industry, said Jhapa has a daily demand for 5,500 gas cylinders, while 7,600 cylinders are being produced. He said gas consumption in the market over the past two months has been about 40 percent higher than regular consumption.

Representatives of security agencies, the Nepal Oil Corporation, the Petroleum Dealers’ Association and the gas traders’ association took part in Tuesday’s discussion at the District Administration Office on ensuring regular supply during the festivals.
