More than 732,000 people in Sudurpaschim Province have enrolled in the health insurance programme, according to the Health Insurance Board’s Sudurpaschim office.
As of the end of Bhadra, 732,752 people had been enrolled in the programme, according to data entered into the Health Insurance Management Information System.
Province coordinator Janak Bahadur Saud said Kailali has the highest number of beneficiaries, with 361,979 people enrolled. Kanchanpur has 87,087 beneficiaries, followed by Achham with 67,308, Bajhang with 52,211, Bajura with 45,454, and Baitadi with 34,270.
Similarly, 33,378 people in Dadeldhura, 27,862 in Doti and 23,203 in Darchula have enrolled in the programme.
The health insurance programme was launched on March 25, 2016, as a social security scheme aimed at ensuring affordable and quality healthcare and reducing the financial burden of major medical expenses. The Health Insurance Board was established under the Health Insurance Act 2017 and Health Insurance Regulations 2018 to manage the programme.
Under the scheme, a family of up to five members pays an annual contribution of Rs 3,500, while each additional member pays Rs 700. An insured family of up to five members is entitled to healthcare services worth up to Rs 100,000, with Rs 20,000 added for each additional member, up to a maximum of Rs 200,000.
People enrolled in the programme can receive outpatient, emergency, laboratory and general surgical services at designated government hospitals.
