Thirteen child-friendly centres have been set up in different parts of the district to protect children affected by disasters and support their psychosocial development. The Nepal Red Cross Society has established and facilitated these centres with support from UNICEF.
These centres were set up to provide a safe, comfortable, and child-friendly environment for the children affected by the Bhotekoshi flood disaster. Out of the centres set up so far, nine are fully operational, while the remaining four are in the process of being operated.
Currently, 462 children are being taken care of in the operational centres. Activities related to sports, entertainment, learning, creativity, and psychosocial support are conducted according to the age and needs of the children kept in the centres. The centre has given children a great opportunity to express their feelings, mingle with friends, and take part in creative activities in a safe and positive environment after the disaster.
Currently, there are 219 boys and 243 girls in those centres. Based on age groups, 88 children are under five years old and 374 are above the five-year age group. Among the children sheltering in the centres, one child is disabled, according to the Nepal Red Cross Society, Rasuwa branch.
