The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has summoned Santosh Khadka, chief of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, for questioning over the detention of former chief justice Cholendra Rana.
NHRC spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel said Khadka was summoned to the commission on Tuesday through the Nepal Police headquarters.
“He has been summoned for discussions regarding the detention of the former chief justice on Sunday and the commission team being prevented from monitoring the detention,” Pokharel said.
The NHRC team had gone to the Crime Investigation Office in Teku on Sunday to monitor Rana’s detention after he was taken into police custody.
However, police made the commission team wait for around an hour before turning them away from the gate.
The NHRC had expressed its objection to the incident through a statement issued on Sunday.
The commission is now seeking clarification from Khadka regarding the circumstances surrounding Rana’s detention and why its monitoring team was not allowed to enter the police office.
