Siraha, September 27
Security personnel have been using loudspeakers in vulnerable areas to urge residents to remain alert after the water level in the Kamala River, which separates Siraha and Dhanusha districts, rose due to continuous rainfall.
Following a weather warning of heavy rainfall and strong winds from September 24 to 27, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the Nepali Army have been deployed in potentially vulnerable areas of Siraha.
According to Assistant Chief District Officer Chet Raj Baral, the District Administration Office, Siraha, has also issued a notice urging residents to exercise high caution. He said 83 Armed Police Force personnel have been deployed in the field, while another 200 have been kept on standby.
Similarly, 250 Nepali Army personnel have been kept on standby for immediate deployment if necessary, Baral said.
He added that Nepal Police personnel are also regularly deployed in the field.
According to Baral, the rising water level in the Balan River in Lahan could affect Sakhuwanankarkatti Rural Municipality-5 and Siraha Municipality-6.
He said security personnel have been deployed and public announcements are being made along rivers and in other vulnerable areas as a precautionary measure.
Baral urged people living along riverbanks and in other vulnerable areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
